Creating and styling with a capsule wardrobe

I have a secret obsession.  I LOVE the idea of a capsule wardrobe.  I really love it.  And I so want to do it but if I did reduce the number of items in my closet then…

Like seriously….no options!!  Or would I?

I’ve read dozens of blogs and watched dozens of videos about it.  This one site, Project 333 focuses on a minimalist fashion challenge that invites you to dress with 33 items or less for 3 months.  That seems a bit extreme for me but hey….I’m open to learning about new ideas.

I decided to at least explore the idea of reducing my wardrobe.  To be honest, I really only wear a fraction of my wardrobe so this shouldn’t be too hard, right?

I pulled all the clothes from one section of my closet.  That was a total of 42 hangers on that side alone.  I have two other sections of the closet and my outwear to go through!  Not to mention my chest of drawers!!

{{ FOCUS LISA… section at a time…. }}

I immediately put back the jeans that I wear on a regular  basis.  That was 5 items.  I put my wedding dress, which I don’t anticipate wearing anytime soon, in a box.  I also put back a pair of white capris and 2 maxi skirts that I’ve worn recently and that I know that I will wear often.  I also put back a “fancy” dress that I can wear for special occasions.

So if you’ve been adding the numbers up, that means I still have 32 items left to deal with.  Again, on just that one section of my closet.

Here’s what is left:

As I looked at this I see some jeans and other items that don’t fit.  Dresses I never wear and other items that I don’t reach for very often.  I moved these clothes temporarily to my office so they’d be out of sight and out of mind.  I can retrieve these items in the event that:
a.  I lose weight
b.  I decide I want to wear them
c.  I can’t think of a third reason…haha!!

Here are the other two sections:

Again, this doesn’t even include the items in my chest of drawers.  :: sigh ::

I’m just going to focus on one section at a time and not really focus on the number of items as much as the amount of use that I am getting out of the item.

That’s what I am thinking about right now and working on.  What are your thoughts??

Stay awesome y’all!! ~lisa
