Coastal neutrals…

Blue, tan, white…these colors give a coastal vibe to my outfit.  I like the combo and it’s comfortable in the Texas heat.

Defining my style…

I see a lot of different styles on Instagram and Facebook and such and I like a lot of them.  Especially the bohemian/gypsy styles.  But a lot of them aren’t…well…they aren’t me.  And they aren’t me for a variety of reasons.

For example, when you see an ad in the paper or a magazine, those models are not the same height and weight as me.  Obvious important factors.  So when I try on those cute outfits, they don’t quite look the same as I envisioned.

And because I’m self-conscious of my upper arms, I rarely wear sleeveless tops or dresses. Again that limits my wardrobe options.

Add to that the fact that I live in Texas and it’s hot 9 months out of the year and that also adds an element to what my wardrobe is made up of.

So I’m working on defining what my style is and what makes me feel comfortable.  It’s a work in progress but I do really like this particular shirt.  It’s a lightweight fabric which I like.  The jeans are my favorite boyfriend jeans so this outfit works for me.

How would you define your style?  What things factor in to your wardrobe decisions?

Teal time….

Or is this more of an aqua color?  I am not sure and really that is not the point.  The point is I looked at the last time I wore the sweater and it was with a different shirt and pants so I am making progress!!

Part of the point for me of a capsule wardrobe is to expand my style without expanding the number of wardrobe pieces.  I’m trying to mix and match more.

One thing I am learning is that I need to think out my outfits a little more so that I am not unnecessarily repeating and I am utilizing more pieces from my closet in more ways.  In the month of July I am going to try to plan that out a little more and see if that helps with how I feel about not repeating the exact same look.

What do y’all think?

Kimono style

I like this kimono and I don’t.  That’s confusing I know but bear with me.

What I do like:

  • I like the colors (multi-color lends itself to more options).
  • I like that it is a lightweight fabric that I can wear during the Texas summer.

What I don’t like:

  • The type of fabric.  It’s a sheer polyester so during the much cooler fall and winter months (I’m cold natured….don’t judge), I won’t wear this much if at all.
  • The cut is not as fitted as I’d like so I feel like I am sort of wearing a mumu when I wear this.

This will be a good piece to have in my Spring and Summer capsule wardrobe and then I can put it away for Fall and Winter.  This will help me feel like I am refreshing my wardrobe even though I didn’t purchase anything new.

The capsule wardrobe journey continues.

I put my hand up on my hip….

When I dip, you dip, we dip…..

I always pose for my pics with my hand on my hip.  I guess because I don’t really know what to do with my hands?  haha!  Not really sure but let’s talk about the outfit.

The shirt is by Merona and it’s oxblood red and y’all know that is one of my colors.  The jean capris are by a.n.a. and the shoes are Lower East Side from Payless.  I think I should have worn a different shoe.  I feel like I tried to be too matchy matchy and I also could have added a necklace.

Showing love in different ways…

My hubby was out of town at a convention and the lawn needed mowing.  He normally takes care of all of that but  I decided to mow it for him so he wouldn’t have to deal with it when he got home.  It was hot.  And it took a while but I got it done.  And it was a way to show my husband that I love and appreciate him.  It is not a typical way to show someone that you love them but it can be an effective one.  And, it definitely helped me appreciate what he contributes to the relationship!

Capsule wardrobe fail?

I’ve been doing my capsule wardrobe for a couple of weeks now.  In theory, I thought I’d be able to just go to my closet and pair a top with some bottoms and be on my merry way.  But that’s not how it worked out this particular morning.

I had cleaned out my closet and stored the clothes I wasn’t currently wearing in the extra bedroom.  I call those my reserves clothes.  I decided to try and wear one of the skirts from there and I was going to pair it with an olive green shirt that was currently in my closet.  It didn’t work.  The shirt was too long and when I tucked it in, well, that didn’t work for me either.

I pulled out the tank top that I normally wear with it but that top is pretty clingy and that would have been okay but it felt extra clingy.  I then tried on an olive green shirt dress but it wasn’t doing it for me either.  I typically wear that dress during the fall/winter and so I guess in my mind I feel like it’s not the right season for the dress so I put it back as well.

So with the skirt and dress back into the reserves pile,  I paired my white capris with this bright spring top.

This got me to thinking about clothes and what season they are.  Most of my clothes can work year round but there are some definite pieces that I feel work better in different seasons.  I figure I will put this particular top away during the fall/winter and of course pull out that olive green dress at that time.

I guess it’s not fair to say that it was a capsule wardrobe fail but more like a redefining of the expectations of my clothes and the season they fit in.
